Dr. Susan Chiddix, C. Psych.

Dr. Susan Chiddix, C. Psych.Dr. Susan Chiddix, Registered Psychologist, has been providing clinical and counselling services since 1981. She received her Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology in 1985 from the University of Texas at Austin. Her dissertation was in the area of male-female relationships, and she has a special interest in helping people deal with relationship issues. She is often told she is easy to talk to and has a relaxed, accepting manner.

Dr. Chiddix works with a wide variety of issues including: depression, anxiety disorders including post-traumatic stress disorder, recovery from sexual abuse, bereavement, low self-esteem, stress management, anger management, compulsive overeating and recovery from auto accidents. She uses clinical hypnosis to help people with a number of issues including stress and anxiety, smoking cessation, weight loss, sleep issues, procrastination, phobias, fear of flying and chronic pain.

She is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Couples Therapy, as well as being certified in clinical hypnosis by the Canadian Society for Clinical Hypnosis (Ontario Division). Dr. Chiddix is also certified as a trainer in Dr. Eugene Gendlin’s Focusing technique, and has received special training in EMDR as well as in relaxation and stress management. She has worked in student counselling services at the University of Texas, Iowa State University and the University of Buffalo, where she supervised doctoral students. In addition, she has taught counselling courses at both UB and Buffalo State University. She had a private practice in Buffalo from 1988-1999. She moved to Markham, Ontario in 1999, where she worked at the Markham-Stouffville Family Life Centre as well as in Private practice. She joined Telka, Smith in January, 2007.
