Dr. Gene Telka, C. Psych.

Dr. Telka is a Registered Psychologist engaged in full time private practice in Peterborough since 1986, and in partnership with Dr. Lee Smith since 1990. Previously, he was employed as a senior psychologist at the Peterborough Civic Hospital from 1978 to 1985. He obtained his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Ottawa in 1980 and his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Windsor in 1969 and 1971 respectively. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked at the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital for 3 years.

Dr. Telka accepts referrals for individual, marital, and family therapy. His theoretical orientation can best be described as a combined cognitive therapy and dynamic formulation, with other approaches as needed, such as supportive therapy. Referral sources consist of physicians (often for emotional health related problems), insurance companies (for treatment of psychological sequelae stemming from motor vehicle accidents), lawyers (for court assessments) and employee assistance programs (for work related problems and stress).
